First Post for the New Year

Hi everyone, this is my first post for the new year and I will be briefly introducing how I have revised my blog.

In this revamped blog, I have changed the layout and colour scheme, as you might have noticed. The dull white is made history and green will be the new colour of my blog. I would also be putting up extra features such as a jukebox, so you might want to look out for them.

Content-wise, there would also be improvements. I would no longer post boring information about major pandemics in the world and lots of other uninteresting things. Instead, I will be blogging on interesting experiences and recollections more often. Occasionally, I will be post useful stuff to know like keyboard shortcuts and the history of blogs. In other words, my blog would be more personalised and more appealing (hopefully) to readers.

In case you haven't noticed (which is highly unlikely), my blog has a new slogan - "Life is a Rollercoaster Ride".

That will be all for my first post, I guess. Bye!

  1. Hey Shilin, several comments:

Layout: Hmm...I feel that the widgets in the sidebar are not very organised. Perhaps you could put stuff about yourself first, then blog followers and archives, and lastly other less-important things such as hangman and the cbox. When I see your blog as a whole, I get this feeling of simplicity and plainness... Is this done deliberately?

Colour scheme: You mentioned that green is the new main colour for your blog, but you haven't quite explained the choice of the colour. Does green reflect on your personality (It's a personal blog)? Or is it a colour you like?

Slogan: Interesting slogan. But I feel that you should link it to yourself and your blog to make it relevant, and explain your choice of the slogan.

Content: The audience you are writing to for several of the newer posts is clearly your classmates. Your writing style is frank, factual and simple, which is in a way good-your posts are easy to understand and you have somewhat succeeded in making your writing more personal- your posts reflect on your thoughts and personality.

  2. You have some nice widgets in the side, and has not been overdone.
The content in your blog is good, covering a lot of material (Keyboard shortcuts are a bit too far out though) and is simple and easy to understand. Your opinions are detailed and elaborated adequately and the blogskin is also quite simple but nice to look at.
However, the blog looks a bit plain. Maybe you could include some images along with your blog posts to make it more visually appealing?

    Cheers,

  3. Hi, several comments as well.
Regarding the layout, I think that it is quite organised, but as Ernest have said, the sidebar is not really organised. In my opinion, the section on "About me" should be right at the top, and followed by the others as Ernest have said. As a whole, it is quite austere, maybe you can add some music at the side or use a more "elaborate" skin or template? I know that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, but I still feel that it is too plain...

About the slogan, it is quite interesting, however, as Ernest have said, it should appertain to your posts, and till now, I have not seen any posts has a link to your slogan. Hope you can update on that, as well as explain why life is a roller coaster ride. Is it because of the fact that there are up and downs in life frequently? Then maybe you should post more about your up and downs in life on your blog, instead of updating on what happened in your personal life.

As for content, I know that the tone you are using is quite formal and serious, although you write in some "just joking", but they are not humorous enough. I don't think it is really a good way to sustain the audience's interest, as in particular, talking about me, I would get bored about the updates on your life. Perhaps you can post some discussion topics and ask for our stand, as that would most likely involve the audience's participation and you get a more "lively" blog. Reading accounts on your life, my personal opinion is that it is quite boring. But you should take note that it is only based on my point of view, I do not know the others.

Finally, for colour scheme, I agree with Ernest, as you should explain why you chose green as the dominant colour for your blog. Is that you want to be an environmentalist? Or do you think that the colour green is good for the viewer's eyes. Just kidding.

Overall, it is not bad, but I would like to point out that the blog policy is for the viewers, not for you, because I thought that everyone is posting about what the viewers cannot do, unless I am wrong...
